HUMMELSTOWN -- Outdoor enthusiasts took to the water today in Dauphin County for the 38th Annual Fiddler's Elbow Slalom Race. It takes place on the Swatara Creek near Hummelstown as part of the Penn Cup Series. The series is designed to introduce experienced paddlers to the sport of slalom racing.

On Saturday clinics are taught by experienced racers from across the country and the course is assembled for practice. The race is held for competitors of all ages. Johnathan Altman was there with his two sons and explained why he made the event a family affair. He says, "Independence, that's probably a big one. I can go down with them, but your still in the boat alone and have to do the work even if I'm right here."

Racers are divided into several different classes and all races are sanctioned by the American Canoe Association.  For more information, visit 38th Annual Fiddler's Elbow Slalom Race
