81-year-old man dead after three-vehicle collision in Lititz

LITITZ -- Police in Lancaster County have confirmed there was a fatal accident in the 3800 block of Oregon Pike (Route 272) this morning just after 11:30.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle operated by Heather Zerbe, 36, of Elizabethtown pulled from a driveway onto Route 272 and collided with a northbound vehicle operated by Mark Tedford, 64, of Palmyra.
The impact caused Tedford’s vehicle to collide with a southbound vehicle operated James Murphy, 81, of Lancaster. 

Zerbe, along with occupants in her car, which included a five-year-old boy, a two-year-old boy, a three-month-old girl, and Audrey McGuigan, 63, of Leola, were injured and transported to Lancaster General Hospital by ambulance for injuries sustained in the crash.

Tedford was transported to Lancaster General Hospital by ambulance for injuries sustained in the crash. 

Murphy was transported to Lancaster General Hospital by ambulance and pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

A passenger in Murphy’s vehicle, Margaret Murphy, (age unknown) was also transported to Lancaster General Hospital for injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed it or who has information is asked to call police at 859-1411.

Oregon Pike was closed until 4:30 p.m. while police conducted the investigation.
