State Police are investigating a bank robbery in South Middleton Township, Cumberland County.

Police say the robbery happened around 11:45 a.m. at the M&T bank in the 600 block of Holly Pike.

The robbery prompted a lock down of a nearby elementary school.  School officials tell us Rice Elementary School was on partial lock down for 2 1/2 hours. Partial lock down means the students and staff could move around within the school, but no one was allowed in from outside of the building and no one was allowed to leave the school.

School officials say the lock down lasted until 2:15 p.m.

State Police currently had a presence at the elementary school, and Dr. Moyer, Superintendent of South Middleton School District, says he appreciates the assistance and response by police.

Police are still searching for the suspect involved in the robbery. The suspect entered the bank with a sweatshirt hood over his head, and a black, ninja style mask over his face. Police say he demanded all of the teller's money. After receiving money from the teller, the suspect fled from the bank towards Route 34.

Police say a pink dye pack was activated as the suspect reached the roadway.

Anyone who comes into contact with an individual who has any pink/red staining on him, his clothing, a bag, or any U.S. currency is asked to call PSP Trooper Miller at (717) 249-2121. Bank robbery puts nearby school on lockdown
