A bill that would exempt volunteer firefighters from certain healthcare mandates is headed to the U.S. Senate.

It passed the U.S. House unanimously Tuesday night.

U.S. Representative Lou Barletta from Pennsylvania is behind the proposal.

Under current law, Barletta says volunteer firefighters are considered full-time employees and it's likely fire departments can't afford mandated health care coverage.
