LANCASTER -- The girlfriend of a Lancaster County man who set his best friend on fire talked only to CBS 21 News about how she risked her life to save her boyfriend.

Kelly Hake was at a Mount Joy courthouse while the man accused of setting her boyfriend on fire sat before a judge during his preliminary hearing Friday afternoon.

She told CBS 21 News that she jumped on her boyfriend to put out some flames.

On a cool September night, two best friends became enemies. It was Sept. 22 around 7 p.m. in East Donegal Township, Lancaster County.

That's when Hake said Jeremy Hostetter showed up to the home she shared with her boyfriend of seven years, Marlin Dyer, and another person. Hake said Hostetter was mad about a woman and threatened them.

"I asked him what do you have in that bottle? He said, 'Well I was gonna burn you all alive,'" Hake said.

After making those threats, Hake said Hostetter left and when Dyer caught up with him at North Decatur Street, they started arguing and then there was a scuffle.

Hostetter allegedly threw accelerant on Dyer, took out a cigarette lighter and set Dyer on Fire. He then calmly walked away.

"He kept yelling, 'Kelly put me out put me out!' And then I told him to, 'Roll baby roll just keep rolling' and I got him out from his waist to his belly, I ripped his shirt off and in turn ripped all the skin off his back," Hake said.

Dyer was airlifted to a hospital.

Friday in court, as a judge told Hostetter that he would go to trial and sent him back to jail, Hostetter was quiet.

"There is no excuse for him doing this and I hope one day I can forgive Jeremy for doing this but I don't think that I can. It's something that I'm just going to have to work through," Hake said.

His bail was set at $1,000,00 and he left the courthouse with Dyer's family waiting for a confrontation.

"The way I feel now, I want Jeremy to be in jail for a very long time for what he's done to Marlin," Hake said.

Dyer is still in critical condition at Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center.
