CARLISLE -- Pennsylvania's first lady presented the Governor's Award for Excellence in Academics to Mooreland Elementary School.

The school scored 93.3 percent on its school performance profile. The score was based not only on statewide testing, but on academic growth, graduation rate, and attendance.

Mooreland Elementary was the highest scoring school in the Carlisle school district.

“This is an opportunity to visit some of the best performing schools and to say thank you and to congratulate them on all the hard work that went into gaining this level of excellence in our public schools,” First Lady Susan Corbett said.

The first lady says making sure all children in Pennsylvania have access to a quality education is a very important to the Corbett Administration.

The new scores allow parents and taxpayers to see how well their local schools are doing.
