Cecil Police Cheif steals DEA funds to gamble

Updated: Wednesday, March 19 2014, 09:51 AM CDT
A Cecil, Pennsylvania police chief who resigned after nearly 40 years of service surrenders on charges of taking $10,000 of Drug Enforcement Administration funds to gamble.

Former chief, John Pushak, 64, turned himself in Tuesday on charges of theft and misapplying government funds, which state police say he used to gamble at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino, in Washington County.

Pushak's defense attorney declined comment Wednesday, but court documents indicate he repaid all the money by the time he resigned.  Misusing the money still constitutes theft since the funds are only to be used for drug investigations and police equipment.

Police say Pushak withdrew the money from automatic teller machines 31 times from 2010 through January 2013.Cecil Police Cheif steals DEA funds to gamble
