Comcast offers affordable internet for low income families

Updated: Tuesday, October 29 2013, 01:46 PM CDT
Comcast teamed up with the Harrisburg City School District to let financially strapped parents know that affordable internet is an option.

The program is called "Internet Essentials" and it allows low income families across the nation to have internet access and a computer in their home, at a fraction of the cost.

The program has helped 1600 families in the Harrisburg area over the last 3 years.

"We want to make sure that all kids in this community are on an even playing field.  And that you have access to the latest news, most up to date research and other resources that are available to help you learn," said Senator Rob Teplitz.

Officials say 19,000 families in the area are eligible for the program.

For more information on how to sign up for the program, call your local Comcast provider and ask about the "Internet Essentials" program or click here.
