Coming thaw could mean flooding on the Susquehanna

WORMLEYSBURG -- It's been a prolonged winter of snow and bitter cold. The big concern is the thaw that begins this week.

Along the Susquehanna River at Dockside Willies you can see a 20-foot wall of ice. Don Carter, the owner and he is concerned, but not so much about the flooding. He is more concerned about what happened back in '96.

"It's really thick out there even in the channel but if we have a 4-inch rain that we had last time we had a really big ice event on the River that took this bridge we're going to have a real problem," says Carter.

On the flip side if it there were to be a gradual thaw and a series of light rain events to come then the wall of ice would actually act as a levy.

That levy of ice would channel the majority of the ice away from Willies.Coming thaw could mean flooding on the Susquehanna
