Corbett unveils portrait of Hanna Penn

Updated: Wednesday, March 19 2014, 07:20 PM CDT
The woman, who many consider Pennsylvania’s first female governor, has finally been given her rightful place in the capitol.

On Wednesday, Governor Tom Corbett and the First Lady unveiled the portrait of Hanna Callowhill Penn.  The portrait will hang in the Governor's office in the Capitol with all the other leaders of the commonwealth.

Hanna Penn, was the second wife of William Penn.

300 years ago, she governed Pennsylvania for six years, while her husband was sick and then for eight years after that.  But she never got the recognition she deserved, until today.

"Hanna Penn has been in our history for more than 300 years.  And I believe it is time to correct history and allow her to join the other leaders in Pennsylvania on the walls of the Governor's Office," Governor Corbett said.
