HARRISBURG – In Dauphin County, the district attorney’s office is investigating a deadly, officer-involved shooting in Harrisburg over the weekend.

The coroner said 43-year-old William Jackson was shot three times by police.

They were investigating a suspicious vehicle near the corner of Schuylkill and Brensinger streets around 5 p.m. Sunday.

Mayor-elect Eric Papenfuse said something needs to make Harrisburg safer for both residents and officers.

An investigation is still underway to see which officer fired the fatal shot.

“They will be looking ballistically to see which gun of the police hit where and when, that kind of thing. Those studies are still out there,” Graham Hetrick, Dauphin County coroner, said.

“It's another tragic story of violence of Harrisburg and we need to focus on reducing violence, focus on reducing crime, both for citizens and the police," Papenfuse said.

The coroner says there was a warrant out for Jackson's arrest. More details about the shooting investigation are expected tomorrow from the district attorney.
