DA: Lawyer's whistle blower statement is "half true"

Updated: Monday, March 10 2014, 08:02 AM CDT
Reported by Ewa Roman:

CBS 21 News is digging up more information about the local lawyer representing Jerry Sandusky and several other high profile cases.

We have a recorded statement from Karl Rominger, who says he blew the whistle on himself.  But, Cumberland County District Attorney  that statement is “half true.”

Karl Rominger’s Law office is in Carlisle.  To be clear he has not been charged.  He’s only under investigation.

“It is with a heavy heart and great humility that I make this statement,” said Karl Rominger, in a recorded statement on spreaker.com.

On a website called spreaker.com local attorney Karl Rominger recorded a 47 second statement.

He released this after news broke that he is under investigation for owing close to 150-thousand dollars to a couple in a divorce settlement.
That’s according to Cumberland County District Attorney David Freed.

Karl Rominger was one of the members of the defense for former Penn State Defensive Coordinator Jerry Sandusky, he also represents the family of missing Kortne Stouffer and he represented former Carlisle Tax Collector George Hicks Jr. in a drug case.

CBS 21 News obtained a statement from Scott Stouffer, Kortne’s father.
He says, “ Karl is a great gentleman and has been a good friend.”

In the recorded statement, Rominger says he initiated the investigation into himself.

But today we learned from DA Freed, that’s “half true.”

Freed says there was a divorce hearing Thursday morning, where Rominger was to pay the settlement.

He didn’t have the money.

So Freed says he sent his lawyer to meet with Freed instead.
However, Freed says he’d learned about this a day before.

“I will do everything in my power to help those that I’ve wronged and to make whole any loss that I’ve created,” said Karl Rominger.

Rominger adds that he is fully cooperating with authorities.

“ I just ask that you pray for those I’ve wronged. And pray for my family,” said Rominger.

CBS 21 found out that William Costopoulos is representing Karl Rominger.
We tried to reach out to him today, but we weren’t successful.
