Dottie Sandusky speaks out for first time since her husband's sentencing

Updated: Tuesday, March 11 2014, 06:02 PM CDT
Reported by Christina Butler:

For the first time, Jerry Sandusky’s wife is speaking out on camera about her husband and Penn State.

Dottie Sandusky says she still believes her husband is innocent.

There are two interviews, one that will air Wednesday morning and another that is already online shot by film-maker John Ziegler.

“I know that Jerry is innocent,” stated Dottie.

The wife of former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky makes it clear she still believes her husband.

The video was posted through Youtube on framingpaterno.com.

Documentary film-maker John Ziegler is asking Dottie and son, Jeff about a new interview scheduled to air Wednesday.

Ziegler has long sided with the family, releasing his own video which was shot in the now infamous Sandusky basement.

“It’s incredibly complex and difficult,” explains Ziegler. “I’m positive Dottie Sandusky is telling the truth, that she believes Jerry is innocent and she has to be lying for us to believe Jerry is anything close to what we we’re told he is.”

Dottie talks about speaking with Sue Paterno after Joe Paterno’s death.  Both Dottie and Jerry wrote to her.

“About a month later I saw her at one of our friend’s funerals and told her I'd love to talk to her talk about what happened and there was more to the story than she knew,” Dottie stated. “And she said she needed time to heal that she would let me know and I've not heard from her.”

Sandusky remains in state prison, sentenced essentially to life for 45 counts of sexual abuse against boys.  While Dottie makes broad apologies, there is no recognition of the victims in the six minute recording.

“I just hope all the people who have been hurt know how sorry we feel for them that this happened to them and we appreciate all the work people have been doing that have been fighting to restore Joe's image and to restore Penn State and to hopefully help Jerry,” Dottie concludes.

When asked why she decided to come forward and speak now, Dottie says it is partly because of the new information about Mike McQueary. Dottie Sandusky speaks out for first time since her husband's sentencing
