HARRISBURG – Today, Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse swore in eight new police officers.

The new officers represent the first of a dozen new recruits slated to join the Harrisburg police force in the coming months.

Police chief Thomas Carter talked at the swearing-in about how this also represents a step in the right direction to make Harrisburg safer.

All of the new officers are veterans. And several -- including two of the female officers -- served in combat zones.
