Fast pitch for a purpose

Everyday, thirty-two women in Pennsylvania are diagnosed with breast cancer and are thrust into raising awareness and searching for a cure.

But one particular woman in York county is making a difference in the lives of these women and their families -- and she doesn't even have the disease.

Stephanie Lux says, "It's just something I thought you know what, I need to get involved and see what I can do."

Lux is doing is holding a benefit softball tournament called Fast Pitch for a Purpose, to benefit the PA Breast Cancer Coalition.

In just its second year, this event at Shrewsbury Elementary has reached capacity.

Some may think -- well, that's very generous of a "breast cancer survivor" to raise money and awareness.  Except - Stephanie Lux doesn't have breast cancer.

"God has blessed me.  I have a daughter who's 10 and she's healthy and my husband is phenomenal, my family is great!  So at the end of the day, why wouldn't I give back?" Lux says.

Thanks to Lux, more than $6,000 was donated to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition last year and that's just from the softball tournament.  Because of Stephanie's involvement, her 10-year old daughter Brooke is also giving back.

She donated 8-inches of her hair last year to the cause.

A kind act that Brooke thought she was doing for complete strangers, until she found out about members of her own community who were diagnosed with cancer.  Some of them were honored at this year's tournament.

"And I want to instill in her that there are things that are bigger and go beyond laptops and Ipods and things you actually truly have to fight for.  You can't just go to the store and buy a cure for cancer." Lux said.

But thanks to Stephanie, Brooke and the dozens of girls participating in Fast Pitch for a Purpose,  with every swing of the bat,  they are a step closer to finding one.
