Fire causes Capital City Mall evacuations Thursday morning

Updated: Thursday, October 31 2013, 05:27 PM CDT
The Capital City Mall in Lower Allen Township was evacuated on Thursday morning due to a fire.

The Lower Allen Fire Company was dispatched to the building around 9:15 a.m. for a report of smoke in the building.

When crews arrived, they saw light smoke coming from a maintenance room of the mall. Mall employees  determined a pile of mop heads were on fire. They told officials they had used two fire extinguishers to put out the fire.

Crews found smoke in several of the stores and ventilation was set up to help air out the smoke.

Fire crews were at the mall for over an hour, before the all clear was given and shoppers were allowed back in.

The Cumberland County District Attorney's Forensic Unit determined the fire was accidental. Officials have not pinpointed an exact cause, but believe careless use of smoking materials started the fire.
