HARRISBURG -- State Democrats rallied at the capitol today, urging Gov. Tom Corbett to make education a top priority in this year's budget.

The House Democratic Caucus claims the governor cut funding for public education drastically -- with some schools seeing budget cuts 10 times in just the past few years.

With three weeks until the governor announces his budget proposal for 2014, they say education should be in the spotlight.

“If we are really serious about public safety, or we are really serious about productivity, then give a child a book. Give a child a computer. Give a child the resources that they need to not only give them great education but value added to their life,” Rep. Ronald Waters, D-191, said.

The State House Democratic Caucus says it's conducted a study that shows Corbett has cut funding for public education by more than $1 billion.
