LATEST: Police investigating sixth armed robbery on West Shore in six days

Updated: Tuesday, October 15 2013, 11:51 PM CDT
Reported by: Donna Kirker Morgan

Mechanicsburg -- Police just cleared the scene in Upper Allen Township, where they hope the latest surveillance video of the heist at Subway will give them some answers.

But the MO is the same; a tall white man wearing all black except for a mask walks in, shows a gun and demands money.

Two young teens left the Subway noticeably upset, one girl's mother by her side.

For the sixth time in six nights, a West Shore business was held up.  At least five of them appear to be connected.

At the Gulf station on Trindle Road in Mechanicsburg, they are watching the parking lot a lot closer these nights and taking some steps to be that extra bit safer.

“We keep low (amounts of) money, only 50 dollars night and day,” commented a person at the Gulf station.

Cops are visible at every corner along Simpson Ferry Road, where two of the now six hold-ups have occurred.  That is a bit of comfort for the owners of Zeiderrelli's Pizza and Subs.

“Police went through our parking lot a couple of times tonight,” stated Sheila Zeider.

But they say the hold-ups have their workers nervous and have hurt business.

“Business is taking a beating, its slow actually,” Zeider continued.  “Had customers walk out tonight, it came on the news and they said no offense but they didn't want to be here.”

On the other end of town, at Benny's Pet Depot they think they may have to change their tactics if the heists continue.

“I think if it keeps going and they can't catch anyone, for the safety of employees and customers we might think about cutting hours back,” explained Diane Marcin with Benny’s Pet Depot.

Again Tuesday night, the guy got away on foot but there may be an important break in the case.  A car of interest has license plate JCG 1047 and is a silver Nissan Altima.

Police have already traced that car of interest back to a rental company and they are following that lead.

If you see it, call any local police or 911.  Numerous police agencies, State Police, Lower Allen Township, Upper Allen Township, and Mechanicsburg Police are all involved.

One other thing, the suspect appears to have changed his mask, all along it has been red, Tuesday night it was blue.

Finally, the suspect seems to hit these stores between 7 and 9 at night.  This one almost the very same time as Monday night's in Mechanicsburg.

We are now up to six robberies on the West Shore after another incident around 840 p.m. Tuesday.

The incident occurred at the Subway in the first block of Gettysburg Road.

The suspect entered the restaurant wearing all black and a green mask and displayed a large handgun.

CBS 21 has confirmed that police believe this is the same suspect as in the previous four robberies, in which the suspect wore a red mask.

Police from Upper Allen Township, where the incident occurred, Lower Allen Township, State Police and Mechanicsburg are on scene.

A vehicle of interest in the case is a silver 2013 Nissan with license plate JCG 1047.

Remember, one of those armed robberies was at the Arooga's which at this time police are unsure if it is connected to the other five.

Another West Shore convenience store was held up Monday night at gun point.

CBS 21s Donna Kirker Morgan was in Mechanicsburg, already working on a story on the recent robberies when she saw police pass her.  She followed them to the scene of this latest robbery, the fifth on the West Shore in five days.

Police remain at the Exxon on Walnut Street in Mechanicsburg.

They think the suspect was the same guy that walked into three other convenience stores with a gun and got away with cash.

The surveillance video from B & H Pizza in Lower Allen Township shows how quick it happens.  In 55 seconds,  the masked man is in and out with cash.

He says give me money, give me money bring close to my face, recalled Alex.

Alex was behind the counter Sunday night when the man came in and put a gun to his face.

It was terrible, Alex added.

Police think the suspect is the same man who first robbed the Pizza Hut in Mechanicsburg on Thursday, the Lucky Mart just a day later and unfortunately, they predicted Monday evening that he would not stop, even before the incident at the Exxon.

A lot of time when having quick succession, a lot of times it is an individuals addiction of some kind because they need the money, explained Lower Allen Police Chief Frank Williamson.

Just over an hour after speaking to Chief Williamson, police think the same man held up the Exxon.   Now on alert, Mechanicsburg Police were assisted by Silver Spring Township Police, Hampden Township Police, Lower Allen Township Police, the Cumberland County Sheriffs Department and Shiremanstown Police Department.  Those various departments were there in seconds, but he still got away.  But the tips are now coming in thanks to the good surveillance video.

We don't want anyone to get hurt, commented Mechanicsburg Police Sgt. Brian Curtis. Sooner we get him off the street, the safer we all will be.

Police report the suspect in the Exxon robbery was wearing a dark sweatshirt, a dark mask and gloves and displayed a black handgun.  He took an unknown amount of cash.

Monday night, another armed robbery occurred, making it the fifth armed robbery in five days.

The latest incident took place around 815 p.m. at the Exxon on North Walnut Street.

The suspect was wearing a black mask and a hood, and is believed to be the same suspect as in the previous robberies.

CBS 21's Donna Kirker-Morgan was working on the story for our 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts when police passed her.

Donna will have the latest information at 10 and 11.

Lower Allen Township Police say the suspect description they have for the robbery that happened at B&H Mart around 7:30 Sunday night off Simpson Ferry Road is very similar to the ones they were given for two other robberies that happened within the past week.

The suspect is described as a male, tall and thin wearing black pants and a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up. We are also told he had a mask covering his face.

Lower Allen Police are working with the Mechanicsburg Police Department because that description matches the suspect description given in two robberies that happened on Thursday and Friday.

The timeline police have given us on the robberies is: on Friday the suspect entered the "Lucky Mart" on East Simpson Street in Mechanicsburg, pulled a gun on the cashier and was given money and then left.

Mechanicsburg police also say on Thursday night a suspect wearing the same kind of outfit robbed the Pizza Hut on East Simpson Street.

And now Sunday night around 7:30, someone matching the same description robbed the "B & H" Mart on Simpsons Ferry Road.

Police are asking anyone with any information to call either the Lower Allen or Mechanicsburg police departments.LATEST: Police investigating sixth armed robbery on West Shore in six days
