Local, state police and FBI form task force to investigate road rage incidents in mid-state

HARRISBURG -- Too many similarities in two recent road rage cases have convinced police to put together an investigative task force that includes the FBI.

The two incidents occurred this weekend just seven hours apart.

The first occurred in Monaghan Township on North York Road around 6:45 p.m. The victim was not hit.

The second incident occurred in Franklin County on I-81 and cost a man his life. The victim reportedly called 911 in Maryland to report the road rage. It appears that the suspect forced him off the road in Franklin County and then got out of his car to shoot at the victim.

"It appears the suspect got out of vehicle and approached victim and fired into driver side," Trpr. Rob Hicks, spokesman for Pennsylvania State Police Troop H, said.

"It's definitely a very disturbing act," Hicks said.

In both cases, police have descriptions of small pick up trucks -- a black Nissan-style pick-up in the York County case and a dark Ford Ranger-style pick-up in the Franklin County case.

State police, the FBI, Carroll Township Police and Maryland State Police have formed a task force with the fear that this could happen again.

"It gets us a lot of resources working together in collaboration and try to put all these pieces together to get a lead," Hicks said.

State police have also put an alert out to body shops in Pennsylvania. They believe the suspect's car in the I-81 shooting has damage to his front driver-side and there may be silver paint that has transferred from the victim's car on to that vehicle.

On Tuesday morning, crews were back out at the scene on I-81 continuing their investigation. Trooper Rob Hicks tells CBS 21 that nothing new was found. Local, state police and FBI form task force to investigate road rage incidents in mid-state
