LONDONDERRY --  A Londonderry Township man was arrested Friday and charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Charles L. McConnell, 25, is accused of severely injuring his two-month-old son. On Oct. 20, state police received a phone call from Hershey Medical Center staff advising them that a two-month-old baby was being treated in the ER and was possibly suffering from "shaken baby syndrome."

During the course of further investigation, McConnell gave law enforcement officials various explanations for his son’s injuries, all of which were inconsistent with the severity of the injuries his son suffered.

The baby's injuries consisted of three rib fractures, a fractured right arm, subdural hematoma (bleeding on the brain), injuries to the ligaments of his neck, blood at the base of his lower spine and a bruise on his lower back.

Doctors at Hershey Med indicated to investigators that the injuries are consistent with multiple episodes of abuse. McConnell is currently in custody awaiting arraignment at the Dauphin County Judicial Center.
