State Police and Cumberland County District Attorney Dave Freed say the suspect in Monday night's bank robbery and high speed chase, killed himself during the pursuit.

Police say Dakin Burgess, 37, of Pittsburgh, robbed the M&T Bank branch on Lincoln Way East in Guilford Township, Franklin County, around 4:52 p.m on Monday night. Police say he robbed the bank while wearing a stocking over his head with a mustache and glasses drawn on it.

A trooper spotted the car, described by witnesses at the robbery, on I-81 and pulled him over. Police say Burgess fired shots, one of them hitting the trooper on the foot. He then fled to Shippensburg, Cumberland County and into a cornfield off of Ott Road.  Police say he camoflaged his car with corn stalks and troopers sent in a robot, but Burgess spotted it and fled. Police say he then exited his car again, and shot a police officer in the shoulder.

The police officer continued to pursue Burgess after being shot, Freed said. The pursuit went through Shippensburg, Cumberland County to Route 997 and Roxbury Road. Police say Burgess crashed his van in the yard of a home and then took his own life.

Freed is investigating but says he believes Burgess is the only one involved.

State police reviewing the entire night to make sure they acted properly.

The two officers who were shot during the pursuit are said to be in good condition and have non-life threatening injuries.

Officials say they are investigating evidence that appears to be connected to a bomb threat at the Growing Tree Preschool on Friday afternoon in Marion, Franklin County.

Cumberland County Coroner Charley Hall says Burgess died from a single gunshot wound to the head. Police say he also sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg as a result of the gunfire with police. Hall says Burgess also had numerous injuries consistent with a car crash. He says the manner of death is a suicide. Man kills self during police pursuit in Franklin/Cumberland Counties
