Mother suing Milton Hershey School after her daughter was strip-searched

HERSHEY -- A Lancaster mother is suing the Milton Hershey School.

She says her daughter was strip-searched because school employees thought she was hiding a smart-phone.

We got our hands on the lawsuit filed by Trina Howze, which shows the alleged incident happened back in June.

Howze says having a smart-phone is against house parents' rules. She adds that during the search, no phone was found.

Howze is seeking more than $75,000 in damages on claims including civil rights violations.

The school says it still has to review the complaint and can't comment right now.

School officials did say, "When it comes to searching students, we have policies and guidelines in place. We take our students' privacy rights seriously, while seeking to balance our responsibility to supervise and care for them while they are enrolled in our school and living on the MHS campus."”

We have not had an opportunity to review the complaint, so I am unable to comment on what is contained in it. Once we have the opportunity to do that, we will know more about the claims being made.
