CARLISLE -- He may be the oldest college football fan in the country still regularly attending games and his simple steps to living a long and fulfilling life have led to an even larger cheering section.

Dr. Ben James, 101, still attends nearly every home game at Dickinson College, a Division III school.

His secret to living so long?

"Truth, love and service," said James during the school's homecoming game on Saturday."Truth, love and service."

James, a 1934 graduate of Dickinson, played on a team that Penn State in 1931. He later became the college's head football coach, recruiting enough players to even field a team during World War II.

The college also claims James played a role in integrating several local organizations, including the Carlisle Area schools, the YMCA and the Carlisle Teener baseball league.

The campus also has the Benjamin D. James Center, which was dedicated in 1987.

But the record he should be most proud of? Life's little victories -- his time as Dean of Admissions.

Larry Snyder from Connecticut, Tony Rogers of New Jersey and Les Creps from Arizona say they mainly travel to Dickinson to attend homecoming to see James.

"He's the most decent man I've ever met," said Rogers.
