Harrisburg –  According to PennDOT, around 8:40 a.m. today both northbound Interstate 83 lanes of traffic in Shrewsbury Township, York County were re-opened.

Northbound I-83 had been restricted to a single lane since 9 p.m. last night so that construction crews could make repairs to a portion of the interstate located about 1.2 miles north of the Maryland state line.

PennDOT tells CBS 21 that during the overnight hours, construction crews drilled holes into the pavement which they used to pumped concrete grouting intended to fill a small void and stabilize the concrete pavement slabs.

The void was created by a deteriorating drainage pipe located more than 20 feet under the pavement.

PennDOT also says that the condition of the pipe still needs to be addressed but that will be done within the next few weeks when material for insertion of a pipe liner become available. Northbound I-83 restored to two lanes of traffic North of Maryland state line
