The streets of Lemoyne were filled with a joyous parade on Saturday as the borough welcomed home 10-year-old Emilia Dameshek from her last chemotherapy treatment.

Dameshek was diagnosed with a rare cancer, Ewing’s Sarcoma, last year, and since then, she has been battling the cancer with the support of not just her friends and family, but the whole borough of Lemoyne.

“She has been through what no one would ever want their child to go through,” Larissa York, Mayor of Lemoyne, said. “She has been so brave through it all.”

Mayor York was one of the leading forces behind Saturday’s parade, which not only featured police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, and much more, but the parade brought hundreds of supporters out on the streets to welcome Dameshek home and wave as she drove by.

“All her friends from Washington Heights, and the cheering, everybody made signs.” Allison Hahn, Dameshek’s aunt reflected. “It’s really emotional, it’s fabulous.”

Those who know Dameshek say she’s one of the strongest girls they know.

“She has been an inspiration to us all.” Barbara Chestnut, a reading specialist at Washington Heights Elementary School, said.

To commemorate Dameshek’s accomplishment of beating this cancer, Mayor York proclaimed today “Emilia Dameshek Day” in the borough of Lemoyne.

“She’s a very special little girl, very strong, very sweet, and she just appreciates everything.” Hahn said.

The parade led Dameshek all the way to her front door, where she was met by friends and family who have been waiting for this moment since she was first diagnosed.

“The way she has faced this challenge in her life has been absolutely amazing.” Chestnut said, adding that the community will continue to show their support moving forward. “She still has a lot of therapy to go through, but she will face that as well as she’s faced all these other challenges.”Parade held for Lemoyne girl after last chemotherapy treatment
