Peach Bottom sirens sound, no cause for alarm

Updated: Tuesday, October 1 2013, 11:54 AM CDT
According to the York County Office of Emergency Management, this afternoon the sirens at the Peach Bottom atomic power station sounded for unknown reasons.

Officials say there is no cause for alarm and it is unclear why the sirens sounded. There is no emergency at the plant.

If there was an emergency at the plant, the sirens would sound for three minutes, officials say.  They are used to signal individuals around the plant to tune in to television or radio stations designated to release Emergency Alert System messages.
