PennDOT issues full call-out for plows ahead of storm

Reported by: James Tully

HARRISBURG -- PennDot officials tell CBS 21 they are expecting 3 to 6 inches of steady snow starting before the morning rush Tuesday.

That is an issue for plows.  They cannot get caught up in the traffic and must maintain a steady pace.

PennDOT is telling people who have a morning commute either to go to work earlier or later than usual. This in an attempt to prevent those traffic jam-ups on major roadways and keep their plows moving and productive.

"The unfortunate thing for us is that with all the storms were not getting weekend storms, We are getting rush-hour storms," said Fritzi Scheffler, a spokesperson for PennDOT.

They are authorizing full call-outs, which means all 310 PennDOT trucks and an additional 37 rentals will be on the roads.

The focus is on keeping one lane of travel in each direction, Which leaves the focus for everyone else to stay out of their way.
