Pittsburgh man creates average sized doll

Updated: Sunday, March 9 2014, 04:14 PM CDT
Move over Barbie! A Pittsburgh man has created a doll that he says looks more like the average woman.

Nickolay Lamm created a 3D computer model of a doll using data from the centers for disease control website, on what an average 19-year-old girl looks like.

Lamm says his motto is "Average is Beautiful. He says his dolls promote realistic beauty standards.  "If there are beautiful women out there with typical proportions, it should be pretty easy to make a doll with typical proportions as well.  If I can feel inadequate at times. I can't imagine what women have go through who are subject to much higher beauty standards than us men."

Lamm says the doll is shorter and broader with a smaller head and a thicker neck than Barbie. He says his doll also wears little makeup.

He hopes to put the doll prototype into production by November.
