Police Department raises $25K needed to get K-9 unit

Updated: Thursday, January 9 2014, 09:54 AM CST
The South Londonderry Township Police Department says it has reached its goal of raising $25,000 it needed to start a K-9 unit.

The money will allow the Department to implement the unit sometime in 2014.

The Department started fundraising for the unit last year, after they received an overwhelming response from the community when Patrolman Nick Ague helped a German Shepherd injured in a car accident.

Ague will head up the program as the Handler.

The Department says the tentative target time frame is to have the K-9 in service in the fall of 2014.

"We are very grateful for those who have financially supported this effort.  Businesses, Organizations, and literally hundreds and hundreds of individual citizens generously sent in their hard earned money to offer their support for this Program," a press release from the department said.
