The Northern York County Regional Police Department is warning residents about a lottery letter scam.

A Manchester Township resident alerted the department, after receiving a letter from Namibia, Africa. Police say the resident received the letter and a check for $4,350. The letter stated that the resident would need to contact a phone number to 'activate' the check and then mail it for a $3,900 processing fee in order to receive a $250,000 lottery winning.

Police say the resident called the number and stated 'this sounds like a fraud', and the recipient on the other end hung up the phone.

Police urge residents to use caution. If you did not play the lottery in Namibia, Africa, you cannot win.

Police urge you to report this type of activity.
