Red Cross promotes fire safety at Pa. Capitol

Updated: Tuesday, March 11 2014, 06:19 PM CDT
March is Red Cross Awareness Month and on Tuesday, staff and volunteers gathered with lawmakers in the State Capitol for a proclamation.

Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley joined the group to put together fire safety bags. In them, the group put information and supplies in hopes of preventing house fires.

They also met with their local lawmakers to give them information about the Red Cross.

"The Red Cross responded to nearly 2200 disasters last year in the Commonwealth. We provided direct financial assistance to more than 3100 families and that doesn't include families who needed a safe drive place during last month's ice storm," said Renee Cardwell Hughes, with the American Red Cross.

The Red Cross had 9,400 cases where they ssupported our men and women overseas.
