HARRISBURG -- Vanderbilt coach James Franklin is expected to become the next head coach at Penn State, a source told CBSSports.com's Bruce Feldman.

Feldman reports many details still have to be sorted out on both sides within the next 48 hours, however.

Franklin, 41, is a Pennsylvania native with an energetic personality. He has built Vanderbilt into a Top-25 program in the SEC, arguably the toughest conference in the country.

Should the deal be finalized, Franklin will replace Bill O'Brien, who went 15-9 in two seasons with the Nittany Lions before leaving for the NFL's Houston Texans.
