Police in York County are investigating a scam that happened Wednesday.

A homeowner in Manchester Township said he got a phone call from an unknown company about locating viruses and other problems with his computer.

The caller allegedly had the man log onto his computer and allowed the suspect to remotely access it.

Police say the caller told the man there were several viruses and malware on the computer, and
that he could clean it up for him for $300.00.

The victim then asked to
speak to a supervisor for the company and was put on the line with
another man, who gave the same sales pitch.

The victim asked
for a call-back number and the scammer hung-up.

Police say both phone numbers on the victims caller ID came up as
no longer in service.

Police warn residents not to allow unsolicited callers access
to your computer or personal information.

Northern York County Regional Police are still investigating.

If you would like to report a scam, call the Northern York County Regional Police Department at 717-292-3647.
