Stolen school bus crashes in Lancaster Co.

EAST LAMPETER -- A Lancaster teen is being blamed for two separate crashes in Upper Leacock Township overnight after stealing at least two cars, a bicycle, and a school bus.

East Lampeter Township Police say this all started at around 3 a.m Thursday with a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Newport and Creekhill roads.

Police began searching for the missing driver and heard a school bus engine start up. They saw a bus crash out of a gated parking area for the Conestoga Valley School District.

"It's not very often you see a school bus heading at you at a high speed," Lt. Robin Weaver said.

The bus headed back towards the intersection, nearly hitting police and bystanders. Police are still working at that crash site.

"It's actually pretty fortunate that no one was hurt other than the suspect, when you think of all that happened," Weaver said.

They followed the bus down Rt. 23. It then crashed at the corner of Hertzog Drive, where it hit a tree.

"I heard a screech, cop sirens, and then a thud," Jeremy Smith said.

He credits the tree for keeping the bus out of his home where he was sleeping before all this happened.

Police surrounded the bus but the suspect still tried to get away.  He hid in the bus and eventually police had to use a Taser to get him out.

The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Ryan Brock. He was taken to the hospital for injuries he suffered in the bus crash.

As police continued to investigate, they got a call from the local garage that was called to tow away the cars involved in the first crash.

Steffy's Towing of Leola reported they had found a stolen car in their parking lot and had another car taken from their garage. Police believe that too was due to Brock, who allegedly stole a car and a bicycle out of Lancaster City.

Lancaster City Police are handling the charges and were expected to arraign Brock in night court.Stolen school bus crashes in Lancaster Co.
