Students, parents rally in Harrisburg support of New Hope

Reported by: Christina Butler

The new Hope Charter School made it's last plea on Monday, to stay open.

Bus loads of current students attended the hearing in Harrisburg.  York City School District denied the Charter's renewal in 2012.

The school is set to close at the end of this year. The district sites poor test scores and management issues as the reason for the closure.

But New Hope parents, staff, and students argue the laws on Charter Schools are too poorly outlined and closing the school will only hurt students.

"Right now I'm just hoping they vote in our favor.  Hope that's changed the
lives of many people, it's definitely changed my life and I hope that
people can come back next year" said Ashley Shaw, a senior at the school.

"I feel like my futures going to be gone. I feel like I won't succeed.  I feel like if I go to York City School District that I won't learn as much as I was learning at New Hope," said Janaya Holly an 8th grade student.

A ruling from the three commonwealth judges is expected within 30-45 days.
