Harrisburg -- A Dauphin County Judge sentenced a Harrisburg man to at least four and a half years in state prison for two carjacking robberies in the same day.

During the evening of June 23, 2012, Joseph ‘Red’ Wingard and several accomplices attempted to steal a car in the Pennswood Apartment Complex.  The victim, who was placing laundry into his car, was assaulted by Wingard and his accomplices.  However, they were not able to get his keys.

About two hours later, Wingard and another accomplice approached a second victim near the Lakewood Hills Apartment Complex.  The pair assaulted this second victim and managed to take his car.  Police finally stopped the car two hours later after a long police chase throughout Dauphin County.

Dauphin County Senior Deputy District Attorney Stephen Zawisky described the robberies as senseless.  “They didn’t have a car to get to North Dakota so they simply decided to take someone else’s by force,” Zawisky stated.

Wingard could face up to ten years in prison.

A second accomplice is awaiting trial and two others are in the juvenile justice system.
