Three firefighters injured battling house fire near the Maryland border

Updated: Wednesday, March 12 2014, 06:14 PM CDT
Reported by Christina Butler:

FULTON TWP. -- Three firefighters were injured battling a house fire in Lancaster County on Wednesday. The Robert Fulton Fire Department Chief says all of the injuries are minor and they are expected to be just fine.

Two of the firefighters were injured when they fell through a hole into the first floor of the home on Furches Road in Fulton Township.  A "mayday" was called out, but both firefighters were quickly located.  Fire Chief

Tracy Tomlinson says both are doing fine.

The other firefighter was from Rising Sun. He was treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire was called into 911 around 11:45AM Tuesday.  The home was empty, and the chief thought it could have been undergoing renovations.
The 2.5 story home is roughly two miles north of Maryland, and crews from that state helped respond to the fire.

A cause is not yet known, but the chief says it may have started in the basement. A State Police Fire Marshal is investigating.
