(UPDATED: March 7, 10:50 a.m.)

An amber alert issued on Thursday, March 6, for an 11-year-old girl from Maryland remains active.

Maryland State Police issued the amber alert for Caitlyn Virts, of Dundalk, MD. Police say she is believed to be in the company of her father Timothy Virts, 38. Virts was last seen in Dundalk, Maryland, operating a 1999 Dodge Durango with Maryland Tag “5AJ4458.”

On Thursday morning, police were called to the 3100 block of Ardee Way for a report of a cardiac arrest. Police say they found the body of Bobbie Jo Cortez in the home with multiple cut wounds to her upper body.

Cortez is Caitlyn’s mother, police say.

Police say Cortez lived at the home with Caitlyn, Caitlyn’s twin sister, a son, and two other adults. Cortez allowed Virts to stay at the home over the past few weeks, officials say.

Baltimore County Police obtained an arrest warrant, charging Timothy Howard Virts, with the first degree murder  of Bobbie Jo Cortez.
Police issued an amber alert because Caitlyn is not supposed to be with her father, a press release said.

Caitlyn is described as a white female, 5’ tall and weighs 80 pounds.  She may be wearing glasses.  Timothy Virts is described as a white male, 6 ‘3” tall and weighs 280 pounds.

The Dodge Durango is registered to Daniel Williams Cortez, 38.  Police say Cortez is the victim's husband.  He is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on various sex offense charges.
Police do not know what, if any, relationship Cortez has with Timothy
Virtz and this homicide case.

Anyone with information is asked to immediately call 911 or Baltimore County Police Department at 410-887-7320. Police ask that you do not approach Virts.

The victim's other two children are safe and in the custody of family members.UPDATE: Amber Alert for Maryland girl remains active
