UPDATE: Body of missing man found in Clay Township, Lancaster Co.

Updated: Tuesday, February 25 2014, 07:53 PM CST
Reported by: James Tully

LANCASTER -- In Lancaster County, a missing man was found dead this morning in Clay Township. The man had been missing for almost two days.

The 81-year-old Clay Township man walked out of his home Sunday evening.
Police were told he had severe medical conditions.

Northern Lancaster Regional Police located the body of Richard Schutter this morning.

He was located in a snow covered field not far from his home. Police were able to find Schutter's body using a helicopter search team to Schutter.

And at this point, police believe Schutter simply succumbed after being exposed to the elements for an extended period of time.

This past weekend we reported on a similar situation. A Berks County man, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, strayed from his home and was found dead.

We reached out to Synergy Homecare, gave me tips for family members to prevent these situations. They recommend having alarms on doors, something that will sound when people leave. Medical equipment stores sell them.

Also, call the Alzheimer’s Association regarding any concerns or help you need.
