WEST YORK -- Police have released more information on the woman who was hit by a vehicle on Rt. 30 around 8:30 last night.

In a press release, state police said the female suspect was walking out of Wal-Mart with a cart full of unpaid groceries when she was approached by loss prevention.

When approached, the female left the cart and fled the store on foot. Loss prevention then contacted West Manchester Police. An officer obtained a description of the female and began to canvass the area.

The officer observed the female walking along Rt. 30 and began to approach her on foot. Noticing that she was observed by the officer, the female began to flee and ran onto Rt. 30 where she was struck by a vehicle.

The vehicle that struck the female did stop and cooperated with law enforcement. An officer in a police vehicle was in the area assisting when the female was struck and quickly positioned his vehicle in front of the female to prevent her from being struck again.

Both officers administered first aid to the female until EMS arrived. The female was taken to York hospital via ambulance and is expected to survive. Her name is not being released at this time.
