WEST YORK -- West York police seized more than 10 pounds of pot in a drug bust Wednesday morning.

While on patrol just before 9:30 a.m., an officer observed a white Ford Focus travelling eastbound within the 1200 block of W. Market St. of the Borough of West York, being operating with faulty/malfunctioning head and tail lamps, and being occupied by only two people.

The patrolman performed a traffic stop of this vehicle for violations of the state vehicle and state inspection codes. The patrolman then observed the occupants attempting to conceal items within the passenger compartment and after approaching and interacting with the occupants detected a strong odor of what the patrolman suspected as marijuana.

The driver of this vehicle was identified as a Jonathan Gonzalez, 26, of Phoenix. He was found to be operating without a valid driver’s license and since he was a non-resident he was taken into custody.

The passenger was identified as Timothy Rier Jr., 23, of Manchester Township. The patrolman discovered two active arrest warrants for RIER and he was also taken into custody.

Police located a large cardboard box containing 10 large, individually heat-sealed bricks/packages of marijuana that were approximately 15 inches long, 10 inches wide and 5 inches thick. Some of these packages were labeled as “Super Kush.” The total amount of this marijuana weighed over ten pounds and with an approximate street resale value of $15,000 to $20,000.

Police also recovered other drugs and paraphernalia from other areas of this vehicle.

Gonzalez was criminally charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and summary traffice offenses. Rier was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both suspects were taken to Central Booking for processing and later arraigned before the duty magistrate who set bail for Gonzalez at $150,000 and Rier at $100,000.

To date this is the largest single seizure of marijuana from a traffic stop for the department by a WYBPD patrolman.West York seize 10 lbs of pot in department's largest-ever drug raid
