YORK -- Tonight in York County, a man is behind bars on $150,000 bail after police allege he shot at his girlfriend.

The incident happened on New Year's Day. Melvin Trottman, 40, and his girlfriend, Nicole Gordon had argued on New Year's Eve, so she spent the night at her family's house on North Queen Street.

On New Year's Day, Gordon went back to the Chestnut Street home she shared with her son, Isidore Holmes, and Trottman. When she arrived at the house, she told police, Trottman was "on PCP or something," and wasn't acting right.

She went upstairs to the third-floor bedroom that she and Trottman shared, and he followed her. They began talking and then the conversation got confrontational.

Trottman went across the room, took a revolver out of a shoe box, and held the gun against her head, demanding that she tell him what was going on.

She began to scream, and her son came upstairs and grabbed Trottman's arm.

Gordon broke away from Trottman and ran down the stairs. Trottman broke free from Homes and began firing shots at Gordon. Gordon was not hit and fled the house. Holmes also fled the house safely.

After a brief stand-off with police, Trottman was taken into custody. The gun was found in the kitchen closet inside a Christmas tree box.

Trottman was taken to Central Booking, where a background check revealed he had previously been convicted of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in Maryland in 1998 and he is not allowed to possess a firearm.

He was charged with criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, possesion of a firearm with manufacturer's information altered, simple assault, making terroristic threats, and firearms not to be carried without a license.York man charged after shooting at his girlfriend on New Year's Day
