Stampede in awe of new home, GIANT Center

HERSHEY -- GIANT Center has rolled out a large green carpet for the Harrisburg Stampede.

The club practiced Wednesday for the first time on its new field at its new home in Hershey. The Stampede is currently conducting training camp for its first season in the Professional Indoor Football League.

Each end zone contains the word "Stampede" in large, black letters and the team's logo is prominently featured at midfield.

The players and coaches were all blown away by their new surroundings. The team had previously played at the PA Farm Show Complex. For most players, it's the first time they've been to GIANT Center, best known for being home to the Hershey Bears hockey team.

"Actually, it's my first time being in the building," said linebacker Jermaine Thaxton, who resides in Lemoyne.

The Stampede's first game is March 30 against Columbus. Wednesday's practice was open to season ticket holders.

"It's awesome," added Thaxton. "Just look at it. I can't imagine the atmosphere that's going to be in here when we start on the 30th."
